The invention relates to a lighting system comprising a plurality of light-emitting elements (1) which are disposed in an array that is formed by a plurality of rows (11) and columns (12) of said elements (1). The elements (1) are configured such that the light emitted by each of the elements (1) can be individually controlled using an electronic control system (2). According to the invention, a plurality of elements (1) are grouped into groups which each contain a plurality of said elements (1) and each of the groups is associated with orientation means which are configured to orient the light emitted by the elements (1) in the group in the desired direction under the control of the electronic control system (2). The invention also relates to an installation for a surgical procedure and to a method of lighting an operating table in an operating room.
