PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recognize a present setting at any instant without requiring frequent reports from a setting server or significantly increasing communication requirement. SOLUTION: A probe used in a measurement system comprises a memory for storing data suitable for possible settings about the probe and a processor for setting one of the possible probe settings. A positioning device is provided, the possible probe settings are used by the processor, and preferably a position parameter for selecting a setting from the possible settings is provided at least partially based on a defined position of the probe presented by a controller of the measurement system.
