PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a clothes dryer which can protect a compressor by sensing a leakage of a refrigerant. SOLUTION: The clothes dryer is equipped with a heat pump 51 which is formed by connecting the compressor 35, a radiator 36, a drawing means 37 and an absorber 38 with a duct 39 so that the refrigerant is circulated, a rotational frequency of the compressor sensing means (not shown) to sense the rotational frequency of the compressor 35, a ventilation means 43 to ventilate the air for drying, a circulation air trunk 53 which guides the air for drying to the absorber 38 through the a radiator 36 and a rotary drum 28 for storing the clothes (not shown) and returns the same to the radiator 36 again, and a temperature sensing means (not shown) to sense the temperature of the air for drying heated by the radiator 36, wherein the compressor 35 is stopped when the temperature sensed by the temperature sensing means falls below the prescribed temperature while the compressor 35 has the prescribed rotational frequency or more. When the leakage of the refrigerant is sensed from the temperature of the air for drying and the rotational frequency of the compressor 35, the compressor 35 is stopped so that the compressor 35 can be reliably protected even when the refrigerant is leaked.
