PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive apparatus control unit as a remote controller of an AV apparatus, which can be operated without the need for confirming positions and display characters of pushbuttons on each occasion. SOLUTION: In the apparatus control unit 1 comprising: a transmission section 2 for emitting blinked infrared ray; an imaging section for imaging the infrared ray; and a reception section 3 for detecting a motion pattern of the infrared ray imaged by the imaging section and outputting a control signal to allow the AV apparatus to execute an operation desired by the control unit, the reception section 3 includes a pattern detection section 33 for detecting the motion pattern of the infrared ray imaged by the imaging section; a pattern table detection section 35 for storing a table wherein the motion pattern of the infrared ray and the control signal are cross-referenced with each other; and a control signal generating section 36 for generating the control signal for allowing the AV apparatus to carry out the operation desired by the control unit on the basis of the motion pattern of the infrared ray detected by the pattern detection section 33 on the basis of the table stored in the pattern table detection section 35.
