OPTICAL DEFLECTION ELEMENT AND VARIABLE FOCUS LENS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable focus lens in which a desired optical action is adjustable with high accuracy with a simple structure. SOLUTION: The variable focus lens is provided with: a transparent substrate 32 and a transparent deforming member 33 which are oppositely arranged; a filled layer 35 formed of a transparent material which is filled between the transparent substrate 32 and a transparent deforming member 33; and transparent electrode layers 36 and 37 respectively provided on the surface 32S of the transparent substrate 32 and the surface 33S of the transparent deforming member 33. An electric field strength distribution along the layer surface is formed by applying an electric voltage between the transparent electrode layers 36 and 37. The focal length is varied while keeping the desired aspherical shape with high accuracy by deforming the transparent deforming member 33 according to the electric field intensity distribution.
