DRIVE UNIT COMPRISING NESTED ELECTRIC MOTORS

The invention relates to a drive unit (1) comprising a steering motor and a traction motor, a first (2) of the two motors (2, 10) comprising a hollow drive shaft (5) through which the drive shaft (14) of the second motor (10) projects. The end turns (7) of the first motor (2) lie radially within the end turns (15) of the second motor (10) and overlap each other in the axial direction, thereby saving axial construction space. In an embodiment, the stator (11) of the second motor (10) is not solid but hollow, is pot- or bell-shaped. The rotor (12) of the second motor thus does not rest against the pertaining drive shaft (14) across its entire axial length but only on a first front (13) that represents the bottom of the pot. This design allows to define a cavity in which at least a part of the elements of the first motor (2) can be located. Parts of the electric motors (2, 10) therefore overlap each other in the axial direction, thereby saving additional axial construction space.
