<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device and a display method by which, even when an additional image processing section does not function due to failure or the like, a main image processing section can properly operate. <P>SOLUTION: The display device 100 is composed of a main image processing section 110 and an additional image processing section 120. The main image processing section 110 comprise: an information distribution section 111 which outputs switching instruction information to switch from an additional image to a main image; a main image signal input section 112 for inputting main image signals for displaying the main image; a main side additional image signal input section 113 for inputting additional image signals for displaying the additional image from the additional image processing section 120; and a switching section 114 for switching images to be displayed according to switching instruction information from the information distribution section 111.
