<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the inside of a process cartridge from being contaminated by an initially housed developer in the process cartridge used in an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: On the upper part of a development apparatus housing 32, an initial developer housing container 41 shielded by a partition wall 33 is provided. In the process cartridge 1 before being used, an initial developer 25 is housed in the initial developer housing container 41. A user slides the partition wall 43, opens a moving port 42, makes the initial developer 25 freely fall down to the development apparatus housing 32, and the mounts the process cartridge 1 on the image forming apparatus. A waste developer 45 discharged in image formation freely falls down to a waste developer housing container 24 provided on the lower part of the development apparatus housing 32 and is stored.
