<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat pump water heater carrying out hot water type heating, and reheating or heat retainment of bathtub water by efficiently utilizing stored hot water heat of a storage type water heater. <P>SOLUTION: A hot water intake is provided in a side wall surface of a hot water storage tank 2 upper part, and a hot water return opening 15 returning hot water from a heating heat exchanger 7 to the hot water storage tank 2, and a water intake 18 sending water of a hot water storage tank 2 lower part to a heating means 1 are provided on a bottom face part of the hot water storage tank 2. The hot water return opening 15 and the water intake 18 are arranged in adjacent positions.
