PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new fluorine-containing polyether compound useful as a surface modifier for fibers, metals, resins, etc., and further an additive, etc., for coatings, adhesives, special rubbers, etc. SOLUTION: The fluorine-containing polyether is represented by alternate linkages of repeating units represented by general formula (1a) [wherein, R represents a 2-80C hydrocarbon group or a plurality of hydrocarbon groups linked with ether bonds; and the hydrocarbon groups may contain a saturated or an unsaturated or an aromatic ring] and formula (1b) [wherein, Rf represents a fluorine-containing alkenyl group].
