A television (1) comprises an internal loudspeaker (108) for outputting sound, a memory (101) for holding information, a remote control receiving section (102) for receiving an instruction from outside the television (1), a microcomputer (103) for making the memory (101) hold either one of information (a) indicating a first sound output mode to allow the internal loudspeaker (108) to output sound and information (b) indicating a second sound output mode to allow an external loudspeaker outside the television (1) to output sound according to an instruction of mode specification for specifying the sound output mode received by the remote control receiving section (102), and an HDMI/CEC communication section (104) for outputting the information indicating the sound output mode held in the memory (101) to an amplifier for controlling operation/non-operation of the loudspeaker outside the television (1).
