A strip-shaped carrier (2) is heated in an oven by, passing the carrier through the oven (6) in a direction of conveyance (T), where the carrier is supported by a heatable plate (12) that is moved together with the carrier through the oven stepwise with a predetermined step size from a starting position to an end position; and moving the carrier further in the direction of conveyance, while returning the heatable plate to the starting position. The step size of the movement mechanism is equal to the step size of the plate. An independent claim is included for a device for heating a strip-shaped carrier.
