In the method for driving a liquid crystal display, L (even number of 4 or above) auxiliary capacity main lines independent from each other are connected electrically with auxiliary capacity counter electrodes through auxiliary capacity wiring and an auxiliary capacity counter voltage can be supplied sequentially to the auxiliary capacity counter electrodes. The auxiliary capacity counter voltage repeats a first voltage level and a second voltage level alternately at a first cycle equal to integer times of 2 or more of the horizontal scanning period. Simultaneously with detection of a signal indicative of start of the vertical scanning period, at least four out of a plurality of auxiliary capacity main lines begin to supply the auxiliary capacity counter voltage.
