摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently perform a cubic spline interpolation arithmetic operation. <P>SOLUTION: Based on a one-dimensional pixel array composed of sample pixels P<SB>-i</SB>to P<SB>i+1</SB>, the pixel value f(x) of a point Q in an arbitrary position x (0&le;x<1) within an interpolation section is obtained, by an interpolation arithmetic operation with a cubic polynomial expression "f(x)=Ax<SP>3</SP>+Bx<SP>2</SP>+Cx+D". A weight factor indicating weighting according to the distance from the point Q is stored in a storage part 50 for respective sample pixels. Pixel values f<SB>-i</SB>to f<SB>i+1</SB>of respective sample pixels are input from a data input part 10. A left influential factor g<SB>-1</SB>in which respective pixel values f<SB>-i</SB>to f<SB>-1</SB>of pixels for a left interpolation influence the coefficient of a polynomial expression is calculated, in an arithmetic operation part 20. A left influential factor g<SB>2</SB>in which respective pixel values f<SB>2</SB>to f<SB>i+1</SB>of the pixels for a right interpolation influence the coefficient of the polynomial expression is calculated, in an arithmetic operation part 30.
