PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic shock absorber which surely prevents a knuckle bracket from being loosened and moved even though a force of transverse direction or longitudinal direction inducted by repeatedly vibrating input acts to a shock absorber body and an outer cylinder and which surely prevents play from being generated and which is intended to stabilize a suspension. SOLUTION: In the hydraulic shock absorber which is adapted to fasten with a lock nut 6 which vertically movably makes the knuckle bracket 5 threadably engage to a lower part of outer periphery of the outer cylinder in compound pipe type of the shock absorber body 3 and makes the knuckle bracket 5 threadably engage to the outer periphery of the outer cylinder, it is composed of: a sleeve 8 which makes the knuckle bracket 5 threadably engage to the outer periphery of the outer cylinder 4; and a bracket body 9 integrally coupled by holding the outer periphery of the sleeve 8, and allows the lock nut 6 to be composed of the tubular body 10 and a tubular rib 11 vertically arranged in one piece from the tubular body 10 and it makes the tubular body 10 of the lock nut 6 fasten while holding end of the sleeve 8 with the rib 11 of the lock nut 6.
