PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fatty acid binding protein (FABP4) as a marker for toxic action. SOLUTION: The present invention provides FABP4 as a biomarker for determining at least one toxic action of a target compound. At least one toxic action is preferably hepatotoxic action. In the preferable aspect, the predicted hepatotoxic action is necrosis of liver. Moreover, the present invention provides a method for predicting the toxic acid comprising measuring an expression level of FABP4 gene in a tissue or a cell sample exposed on the compound and comparing the measured expression level with a reference expression level.
