The method involves detecting error and/or failure independently in a remote maintenance device (FWE), and generating an error report (SM) independently from the detected error and/or failure. The error report is transmitted to a service station (SeS) over a communication network (KN) using the maintenance device. The report is directly reported in an order management of the station, where the report has information about the type and time of the error and error clearance information and priority-allocation of the error based on the importance of the error. An independent claim is also included for a remote maintenance device.
