PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing tin disulfide in which a special apparatus such as a high-pressure apparatus is not used and addition of a third component except tin and sulfur is unnecessary. SOLUTION: Tin disulfide is produced by firing a mixture of metallic tin and sulfur, in which the content of sulfur is 5.5 mol or more vs. 1 mol of metallic tin, at a temperature which is the boiling point of sulfur or higher and≤700°C in a mixed gas atmosphere consisting of an inert gas and a sulfur gas in an open system.
