<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing device and an image processing method that can appropriately determine the effectiveness of density and other corrections based on face areas included in an image. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing device comprises a density correction curve generation part 11 for generating a density correction curve according to a reference density correction value set according to all image characteristics of original image data, a face area detection part 12 for detecting face areas of subjects included in the original image data, and a density correction value setting part 130 for correcting the reference density correction value according to the face area information detected by the face area detection part 12; and generates the density correction curve for density correction to the original image data according to an appropriate density correction value set by the density correction value setting part.
