<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite portable electronic device normally operable by both of communication via a contact interface and communication via a non-contact interface. <P>SOLUTION: In this composite IC card having the contact interface and the non-contact interface, it is detected to which of the contact interface and the non-contact interface a signal has been input, and if the signal is detected, it is determined whether a communication carried out via either of the interfaces is just started or data transmission is already carried out in the communication. When the communication is just started, it is determined whether the interface inputting the signal corresponds to an interface at a high priority order level or not. When it is determined that the data transmission is already carried out or when the interface inputting the signal is different from the interface at the high priority level, communication via the already established interface is maintained.
