PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of growing carbon nanotube, particularly the carbon nanotube having a tip opening. SOLUTION: The method of growing the carbon nanotube includes a stage for preparing a base material on which a catalyst is formed, a stage for mounting the base material in a reaction vessel, a stage for introducing a gas containing carbon into the reaction vessel to grow the carbon nanotube, a stage for quickly stopping the growth of the carbon nanotube by quickly decreasing the concentration of the carbon-containing gas introduced into the reaction vessel in the growing process of the carbon nanotube and a stage for separating the carbon nanotube from the catalyst.
