PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester film to be suitably used in various optical members for use in LCD, PDP and the like and as a protective film, release film, etc., used in the production process for optical sector-related products, and capable of giving high-quality images without unevennesses and defects and with high-grade luminosity when used as a diffusion sheet base in particular. SOLUTION: The biaxially oriented polyester film for optical use has a coating layer on at least one side thereof, being≥91.0% in overall light transmittance and 40-70°in the angle(θ3) made by the principal orientation axis with the film's MD(machine direction).
