PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle image processor that optimally assisting the vehicle control. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus is provided with a photographic means for acquiring stereoscopic images of the periphery of own vehicle, a corresponding point detection means for detecting corresponding points between the stereoscopic images acquired by the photographing means, and a distance computation means for computing the distance between own vehicle and an object in the periphery of own vehicle, on the basis of the corresponding points detected by the corresponding point detection means. When a plurality of corresponding point candidates are detected by the corresponding point detection means, a corresponding point selection means selects one corresponding point from among the plurality of corresponding point candidates, on the basis of a control mode of own vehicle.
