PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal head recording device which highly accurately predicts head cutting to urge a user to replace the head in a timely manner, and copes with a sudden head cutting. SOLUTION: The thermal head recording device, which selectively heats the pixels comprising heating elements on the thermal head 66 to print an image on a heat sensitive recording material, is equipped with: a resistance measuring section 84 for measuring the resistance value of the pixels on the thermal head 66; a usage history storing section 112 for storing the resistance value data thus measured; and a trouble predicting section 110 for predicting the occurrence of troubles of the thermal head by obtaining the lifetime information, based on the resistance value data stored in the usage history storing section 112.
