PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microscope having a zoom magnification varying mechanism capable of easily obtaining an optimum illumination state interlocked with the change of zoom magnification. SOLUTION: The microscope has: an illumination mechanism 7 irradiating a sample to be observed 3 with light from a light source device 8 and also capable of varying the irradiation range of the light irradiating the sample to be observed 3; and a zoom lens body 9 arranged along the optical axis of light from the sample to be observed 3 and also having a zoom optical system capable of setting optional magnification. The irradiation range for the sample to be observed 3 by the illumination mechanism 7 is varied interlocked with the setting of the magnification of the zoom optical system by the zoom lens body 9.
