<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus with a process unit which can be freely attached/detached and to surely prevent damage to the process unit. <P>SOLUTION: An outside driving gear 332 is engaged with a motor gear 304 in a transmission part 380 and is rotated along with a rotation of a motor 302. Furthermore, a joint 336 which cannot be rotated relatively with the gear 332 can be freely proceeded to/evaded from a hexagon key 310 of an inside driving gear 308 and can also be freely engaged. When the process unit 4 is not in an attached position to the image forming apparatus, a thick material part 344 of a cam plate 340 is positioned between the joint 336 and the hexagonal key 310 and separates the two. Then, since the rotational force of the gear 332 is not transmitted to the gear 308, a drum driving gear 306, etc., for rotating a drum gear 210 of the process unit 4 is not rotated, for example.
