PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector achieving the reduction in the number of parts while avoiding the upsizing of an optical system. SOLUTION: A third optical path OP3 on which a relay optical system 50 is incorporated is easily set to required length by first and second lenses 51 and 52, and the illumination surfaces equivalent to the image forming areas of liquid crystal panels 61b and 61g are efficiently projected to the image forming area of a liquid crystal panel 61r. In such a case, the first lens 51 and the second lens 52 have the same shape but turning to an opposite direction, so that they are incorporated on the third optical path OP3 just like separate lenses in terms of aberration or the like. Thus, the aberration of the relay optical system 50 is adjusted, and the image forming area of the liquid crystal panel 61r is illuminated with good uniformity. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
