PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve astringency of a steering wheel at the time of return steering in an electric power steering device. SOLUTION: To solve deviation between a target output value I* corresponding to a detection steering torqueτand an actual output value of a steering assistance force generating motor 10, an output control unit 60 controls outputs of the motor 10 corresponding to an output command value corresponding to the deviation. A phase control characteristic by a phase control unit 30 to signals corresponding to the detection steering torqueτis changed corresponding to judgement results of a steering state judgement part 40 for judging whether it is under a return steering state or a turn steering state, so that the response of the change of the target output value I* relative to the change of the detection steering torqueτin the return steering state is lower than that in the turn steering state. The output control characteristic by the output control unit 60 is changed corresponding to judgement results of the steering state judgement part 40 in synchronous with the change of the phase control characteristic by the phase control unit 30, so that the response to the change of the output command value to the change of deviation between the target output value I* and the actual output value under the return steering state is lower than that under the turn steering state.
