PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image projecting device capable of making a variable diaphragm effectively function while keeping the effect of uniform illumination by an integrator. SOLUTION: The image projecting device is equipped with the integrator to generate a plurality of secondary light source images, and the variable diaphragm ST restricting light quantity at or near the conjugate position of the secondary light source images. The variable diaphragm ST is constituted of a variable diaphragm mechanism 9, and comprises a base plate 21 having a fixed aperture 21a and a diaphragm blade 23 which performs stopping down by advancing into the fixed aperture 21a. The change of the light quantity passing through the variable diaphragm ST is larger than the change of the size of the effective area of a diaphragm aperture before and after stopping down.
