<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium with a recording layer which can indicate high refractive index in the range of a wavelength near 405 nm. <P>SOLUTION: This optical recording medium 10 comprises the recording layer 4 formed between a pair of substrates 2 and 8, and also comprises a reflective layer 3 formed between the substrate 2 and the recording layer 4. In addition, a dielectric layer 6 is formed between the substrate 8 and the recording layer 4. The recording layer 4 is of such a structure that a carbon ring or a heterocyclic ring is coupled with one end of a monomethine chain, and a benzene ring is coupled with the other end.
