<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phase difference film which has little contrast variation due to environmental variation and heat of back light even in the case of a big screen and which has small color shift and more reduced light leakage; and further to provide a manufacturing method of the phase difference film, a polarizing plate and a liquid crystal display. <P>SOLUTION: The phase difference film containing a cellulose ester has a lamination structure composed of an optical anisotropic layer and an optical isotropic layer and there is the optical isotropic layer at least on one surface thereof. The phase difference film is characterized by having the optical isotropic layer satisfying a relation: Sb≤1/2Sa, when Sa denotes face orientation of the optical anisotropic layer and Sb denotes face orientation of the optical isotropic layer expressed by the following formula. Sa=(nx+ny)/2-nz, Sb=(nx+ny)/2-nz, wherein nx is a refractive index in a lagging axis direction, ny is a refractive index in a phase advancing axis direction and nz is a refractive index in a thickness direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
