PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus excellent in durability and image stability without degrading image quality even for long-term use. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has at least an electrophotographic photoreceptor and an intermediate transfer body and is characterized in that: in a hardness test of the electrophotographic photoreceptor using a Vickers square pyramid diamond indenter in an environment of 25°C and 50% humidity, the photoreceptor shows an elastic deformation ratio of≥45% and≤65% under 6 mN dent load and shows a universal hardness (HU) of≥150 N/mm<SP>2</SP>and≤220 N/mm<SP>2</SP>; the surface of the photoreceptor has continuous stripes of recesses and projections in a perimeter direction or dimple-like fine recesses and projections; the intermediate transfer body has an elastic layer at least on the surface; and the intermediate transfer body shows an elastic deformation ratio of≥50% under 0.1 mN dent load and shows a universal hardness (HU) of≤220 N/mm<SP>2</SP>.
