PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image data management device, with which a free area can be efficiently created when a plurality of the same images exist in a storage part. SOLUTION: The image data management device has a storage means for storing image data, a comparison means for comparing a plurality of pieces of image data stored in the storage means with each other to extract image data compatible to prescribed conditions; a confirmation means for confirming propriety of erasure to the owner and an erasure means for erasing the image data, when erasure permission is received. An image data management device in another example has a storage means for storing image data, an image reading means for reading an image to obtain the image data, a comparison means for comparing a plurality of pieces of image data stored in the storage means with the read image data for extracting the image data compatible to prescribed conditions from among the plurality of image data stored in the storage means and an image transmitting means for transmitting the extracted image data, in place of the read image data to a prescribed transmission destination.
