PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module which can be suppressed from becoming large-sized even when the number of optical fibers to be connected to an optical component is large and can keep a housing storing the optical component airtight. SOLUTION: The optical component 2 is stored in the housing 1, one-end sides of a plurality of ribbons 5 (5a, 5b) of optical fiber which are arranged one over the other are arranged at least one end side of the optical component 2, and the plurality of ribbons 5 (5a, 5b) of optical fibers are optically connected to the optical component 2. The other-end sides of the plurality of ribbons 5 (5a, 5b) of optical fibers are led out to the outside of the housing through its optical fiber lead-out opening 4. The plurality of ribbons 5 (5a, 5b) of optical fibers are arranged across a gap in the stack direction of the plurality of ribbons 5 (5a, 5b) in the area of the optical fiber lead-out opening 4 of the housing 1 and an airtight material 6 which keep the housing 1 airtight is provided in the gap.
