Detection of sequence errors in a program execution

The method involves storing an initial state of a counter before execution of one instruction comprising the execution a given number of times of one same operation, and incrementing or decrementing the counter by a weight assigned to the operation on each execution of the operation. The final state of the counter is compared with an estimated value by increasing, respectively decreasing, its initial state by a multiple of the weight assigned to the operation corresponding to the normal number of executions of this operation in the instruction. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a microcontroller comprising one microprocessor (2) a smart card comprising the microcontroller.
