Coffee maker for brewing coffee powder contained in cartridge (20), comprises brewing chamber (5) to receive coffee powder cartridge; mechanism(s) for punching coffee powder cartridge; pump (2) for feeding hot brewing water into brewing chamber; and mechanism for restricting amount of brewing water fed into brewing chamber per unit of time to such an extent that brewing water flows through cartridge received in brewing chamber unpressurized. - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for coffee powder cartridge, comprising a cup shaped lower portion, the bottom constituting the cartridge bottom, where the foil covering the aperture provided in the cartridge bottom is made of a material that has a lower ductility and a lower tensile strength than the material of the cup shaped lower portion to ensure that the foil reliably tears open under the influence of a punching member upon closing the brewing chamber.
