Plasma display apparatus

A plasma display apparatus, that performs the gradated display using the.subfield method by controlling on/off states of pixels in plural subfields, at least some of the subfields having different luminance, comprising:
a plasma display panel that has plural scan electrodes and sustain electrodes that extend in the same direction and are arranged adjacent to each other and
plural address electrodes that extend in the direction perpendicular to that of the plural scan electrodes and
the sustain electrodes;
a detection means for detecting the display load ratio of each of the plural subfields; and
a sustain pulse cycle control means for controlling the sustain pulse cycle of each subfield according to the display load ratio detected by the detection means.
