The lancing apparatus includes a disposable lancing element (12) for making an incision through a user's skin and includes a body (16) having a skin lancing member (14) projecting from one end. A capillary tube (18) is mounted in the body in a lateral relation ship to the skin lancing member and may be slid longitudinally relative to the body such as to extend past the skin lancing member. The body includes a number of circumferentially spaced bosses which project outward from the body for guiding the disposable element installation in a carrier element. The skin lancing member may comprise a number of needles (14) or barbs arranged side by side.
