The cartridge (1), comprising a body (5) with inlet (9) and outlet (8) ends, a plunger (3) and a coupling (14, 16) for connecting the cartridge to an injector (2), has a loading zone in the form of a cavity between the inlet and outlet that holds a supple hydrophilic intraocular lens (6) in an uncompressed state in an aqueous medium. The outlet is in the form of a tube of decreasing cross-section from the cavity to the outlet end, in which the lens is folded progressively as it is moved towards the outlet by the plunger.
