SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR UPWIND SPEED BASED CONTROL OF A WIND TURBINE

A method for controlling power output of a wind turbine generator in respons e to an anticipated change in wind speed is provided. The method includes sensing wi nd speed at a desired distance from the wind turbine generator in a direction o f the wind. The method further includes controlling pitch of a blade of the wind turbine generator based upon sensed transient wind speed in advance of a change in wind speed at the wind turbine generator.
