An apparatus and a method for performing a control interface function in response to a user activity state in a mobile terminal are provided to automatically turn on/off power to be supplied to a display of the mobile terminal according to the user activity state, thereby extending the battery use time. An apparatus for performing a control interface function comprises a sensor unit(10), connected to an acceleration sensor attached to the waist of a user, for outputting a signal mapped to a user activity state, a signal processing unit(30) for generating and outputting a control signal after processing the signal outputted from the sensor unit(10) and determining the user activity state, and a power control unit(20) for controlling power to be supplied to a display unit in response to the control signal outputted from the signal processing unit(30).
