<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide bipolar electric surgical forceps with a plurality of electrodes on respective jaw members for forming a pair of corresponding or counter electrode arrays to enhance the tissue-seal integration. <P>SOLUTION: The forceps comprise a ring electrode 422 disposed on a jaw member 282 and a post electrode 412 disposed on the other jaw member 280. The ring electrode 422 comprises an insulating membrane 424 to form a ring electrode-insulator assembly 420. The post electrode 422 comprises an insulating material disposed in the periphery to form a post-electrode and insulator assembly 430. When the jaw members 280 and 282 are closed around a tissue, the centers of the post electrode 422 and the ring electrode 422, facing each other, are coaxially coincide with each other so that the electric surgical energy flows through the tissue from the ring electrode 422 to the post electrode 412. The insulating materials 414 and 424 separate the electrodes 412 and 422 from each other to prevent straying currents from flowing in the peripheral tissue. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
