PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface emitting laser element which is equipped with a current constriction layer, capable of restraining a current from increasing locally in density in the constriction layer, and excellent in withstand voltage characteristics. SOLUTION: The current constriction-type surface emitting laser element is equipped with a pair of semiconductor multilayered reflecting mirrors, an active layer provided between the multilayered reflecting mirrors, and a current constriction layer that is provided close to either of the multilayered reflecting mirrors or inside the multilayered reflecting mirrors. A current leveling layer is provided in a region near to the current constriction layer provided inside the semiconductor multilayered film reflecting mirrors. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
