PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a sewing machine equipped with a thread tension regulation apparatus which facilitates the switching of the tension applied to a sewing machine thread. SOLUTION: The sewing machine 1 is equipped with a stitch balancing thread tension apparatus 5 to apply the tension to a needle thread T and the thread tension regulation apparatus 30 disposed in parallel in a thread route of the needle thread T. The machine 1 is so constituted: that a switch lever 32 of the thread tension regulation apparatus 30 is rotated by the prescribed operation to switch between a tension application position to apply the tension to the needle thread T by making a pair of stitch balancing thread tension plates 31a and 31b come close to each other to hold the needle thread T and a tension releasing position to release the tension to the needle thread T by making the pair of the stitch balancing thread tension plates 31a and 31b separate from each other to release the needle thread T so that the switching between the application of the tension to the needle thread T by the stitch balancing thread tension apparatus 5 together with the thread tension regulation apparatus 30 and the application of the tension to the needle thread T by only the stitch balancing thread tension apparatus 5 is executed.
