PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cope with increase of output of an engine by increasing rigidity of a cylinder while maintaining the engine compact. SOLUTION: A breather structure for the engine is provided with a breather chamber 30 separating oil from air containing oil mist in a crank case 1 and returning oil component after separation into the engine and discharging gas component to an outside of the crank case 1. In this breather structure for the engine the breather chamber 30 is formed on a circumference surface of the cylinder 4, in an embodiment, on a back surface in a direction in which a crank case 1 extends as one unit with the cylinder 4. Preferably, a rotary body storage chamber, in an embodiment, a balancer chamber 31 is formed with adjoining the breather chamber 30 as one unit with the cylinder 4. Moreover, preferably, the breather chamber 30 is formed as one unit with the cylinder 4 and an upper crank case member 2 to cover an upper surface of the upper crankcase member 2 from the back surface of the cylinder 4.
