PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing apparatus and control method thereof in which desired contents (document) can be retrieved in simple configuration. SOLUTION: The information processing apparatus comprises an indexing capability table in which a capability indicating contents that the relevant information processing apparatus can index, is associated with each of a plurality of external information processing apparatuses. When any one of the plurality of external information processing apparatuses performs index processing, a type of contents to be indexed, is collated with the indexing capability table, thereby selecting the external information processing apparatus performing index processing (step S810).
