The device has a brush unit (20) with a powered brush (22) rotatable around its longitudinal axis. The brush unit has hinges (24, 26) that are provided at a door (12) and at a vehicle body (10), respectively. The unit is passed between an operating position that extends between the door and the vehicle body and an inactive position that is running parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle, by opening and/or closing movements of the door. A guide rail (28) is formed in the door to relocatably guide the hinges. The brush is driven by a drive shaft and an electric motor.
