<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell at least partially having resistibility to corrosion including usage of a component elements structured by materials at least partially having resistibility to corrosion. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell includes materials and design of a sub-gasket having a geometric arrangement of a sub-gasket reducing oxygen transmission from a cathode to an anode side of a barrier membrane and/or hydrogen transmission from anode to cathode side of the barrier membrane. To an ionomer sub-gasket having proton conductivity and a high O<SB>2</SB>transmittance, not only a proton non-conductive sub-gasket material having a low oxygen and/or hydrogen transmittance is used, but additionally, microporous layers (for example, one coated on a diffusion medium) placed just under a transparent sub-gasket material are removed, so that generation of corrosion species can be reduced. And also, corrosion of a metal bipolar plate can be prevented by removing direct contact between a bipolar plate material surface and a PFSA ionomer barrier membrane material. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
