<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate production of ozone and nitrogen oxide during electrostatic charging, to prolong the life of an image carrier, to obtain high picture quality, and to make a device compact on the whole. <P>SOLUTION: A surface layer 1d having a function of a charge injection layer serving as an electrode of a capacitor is formed on an outer peripheral surface of a photosensitive layer of a photoreceptor 1, and a magnetic brush formed by a magnetic brush roller 21 of a charging device 2 is brought into contact with the surface layer 1d to charge the photoreceptor 1 by injection. The surface layer 1d has a diamond type carbon structure or amorphous carbon structure containing hydrogen. Consequently, production of ozone and nitrogen oxide can be suppressed although a desired charging potential can be obtained even with a low voltage. Further, a developing device 4 is enabled to have a function of cleaning untransferred toner on the photoreceptor 1, and then the device is made compact on the whole. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
