PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a level detector by which a liquid surface level in a blood storing tank in which blood is stored is detected precisely and reliably and which has simple structure and is easy to handle. SOLUTION: In the level detector 1 by which the liquid surface level of blood L stored in the blood storing tank is detected, the thickness of the side wall part 12 of the blood storing tank ranges from 0.5mm to 4mm, and the level detector 1 is provided with sensors 31A and 31B which originate signals 51 from the outer surface 12A of the side wall part toward a space 16 in the blood storing tank and which receive reflected signals 52 reflected by a boundary surface of the side wall part 12 from which the signals 51 are originated and the space 16 in the blood storing tank. It is judged whether the blood L exists in the space 16 in the blood storing tank at a part where the sensors 31A and 31B are arranged from the intensity of the reflected signals 52.
